Culver City (90230, 90231, 90232, 90233) is a fully incorporated city within the City of Los Angeles. It was founded by Harry Culver and incorporated in the 1917.
Originally a center for movie production with MGM and Sony Studios, it was the headquarters for Hughes Aircraft. Sony Studios is still located in the area. Movies that were shot in Culver City include, The Wizard of Oz, The Thin Man, Citizen Kane, and the front of Culver Studios, was reputed to have been used as the facade of Tara in Gone With The Wind.
The downtown area of Culver City has been revitalized and is fast-becoming a new entertainment destinations with its restaurants and art galleries, the latter prompting the New York Times to call it the "nascent Chelsea".
The new light rail project in Los Angeles from Downtown L.A. to Culver City should be completed in 2010, which will further enhance the City's desirability. This will eventually be extended to Santa Monica.
Culver City is one of the more affordable areas in the Los Angeles area with a mixture of single family, condos, and large number of rental units. It is also one of the few areas without rent control.
Culver City landmarks include:
Culver Hotel, built in 1924 home to Hollywood Golden Era celebrities, and now on the National Register of Historic Places.
Helms Bakery, originally opening its doors in 1931 as a family-owned bakery, it is now the center of modern furniture and design stores. The architectural integrity of the old building still remains.
Schools fall under The Culver City Unified School District.
Culver City is in the 26th Senate District.

Well, thank you, Elizabeth. This was a project for AR to start me doing hyper-local posts. Tonight will be my last one. I really have been rushing them and hope to clean them up in the future. But again, thank you for your encouragement.
My uncle lives in Culver City: 1 thing you forgot to mention is the a-MA-zing 4th of July fire works display that Culver City puts on every year from the High School. (we watch them every year from his front yard, directly across the street on Garfield ;) Great post!
