Santa Monica Place is Now Open

The Santa Monica Place mall is now open and they have done a great job of taking advantage of its location near Santa Monica beach.

The mall has been completely opened up and has attracted some upscale boutiques and the only Bloomingdales loft-style store outside Manhattan.  This Bloomies is truly exciting and itself has an open feeling.

For the foodies there are plenty of great restaurants on the rooftop deck.  Two standouts are Sandia, upscale Mexican cuisine and Ozumo, contemporary Japanese.  Both restaurants are enormous and if today is any indication they, and the other dining places are going to do stellar business.

They also took advantage of the existing popular Third Street Promenade with one entrance to the Mall being a continuation of that street.

The ocean view from the rooftop deck is somewhat limited but the feeling is still there.

Today was way too crowded, but I am definitely going to go back and check out all the stores.

Sounds like a great place to shop.  If I get down that way I will bring my wife for some shopping fun.

Jane, the Santa Monica Place Mall is obviously going to be a hit and the street level entrance will probably be well received.

All the light, openness and views are are very different from any malls we've ever seen. I could sure get lost in there window shopping all day.

Ally,  let me know :)

Carol,  as long as you are window shopping.  Leave your credit card at home.

Chris and Stephanie,  very dangerous indeed.  Willpower is needed at all times.

Great localism post Jane. I hope the mall brings lots of new jobs to the community....and some great sale opportunities for when you're shopping.

I love the new FLICKR photostream. So civilized to have Bloomies at the beach! Baby Grand and piano player too? So, I am curious as to what contemporary Japanese cuisine is since much of what we have is Asian fusion or creative sushi and sashimi

Janice,  it is pretty much the same.  Bloomies at the beach.  I think I will coin that one.
