Halloween is drawing near and the West Hollywood Halloween Parade is a must see for those of you who have never been.
This will be the 23rd annual West Hollywood Halloween Parade and it is expected to draw half a million people to the venue which stretches from La Cienega on the east to Doheny on the West.
The Parade is said to be the largest of its kind in the world and this year is complemented by the Rocky Horror Picture Show's 35th anniversary celebration. There will be an actual parade starting at La Cienega at 7:00 p.m. and featuring the cast of the show which will perform excerpts throughout the evening. Although termed a Parade, the West Hollywood Halloween Parade is an informal walking back and forth of people in costume and gawkers, "parading" back and forth throughout the evening. The last couple of years I have attended there have been more civilians than people in costume.
The festivities will start at 6:00 p.m. and continue through 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 31st.
Parking is extremely difficult. To ensure a space consider going early and grabbing a bite at one of the many restaurants in the area.
Below are a few pictures from last year's event.

Who what a riot! And in conjunction with the Rocky Picture Horror show it should be outta this world :) Will you be there filming it for us? :)
Liz, if I can get close, I might. It is extremely difficult to get to with our lack of public transportation.
Wild costumes there! Looks like it will be a blast though!
Hi Jane, What a really cool event. Naturally a Hollywood production. I would be this be a real hoot to attend. I hope you make , your photos from the past event are awesome. Reminds me of Marti Gras in some ways. For years and years I never missed it. My goal is to one day get over to Venice for Carnival. That would be so awesome but a good Halloween parade would be fun too! Speaking of which (parades), do you ever get down to the Rose Parade? That would have be such a worthwhile experience.
Debbie, they always are.
William, I have never made the Rose Parade. I really don't like having to fight for parking.
Jane, a half million people...WOW!! that is indeed a large parade/party. Some of those costumes were WILD
Yep, that's Hollywood! Love the peacock costume! Sounds like a fun time...looking forward to pics!
Rebecca, it is like nothing else you have seen.
Susan, not sure I will be going.
Wow -- I can even imagine being at a "parade" with a million people! If you get a chance, post the pictures... It should be quite a show.
Joan, I will do my best.
Jane - West Hollywood has got to be a wild place on Halloween. Of course you'll be there, camera in hand, right?
Jeff
Jeff, only if you come up.
HOO HAA! I love this and it looks like West Holywood has something in common with Austin as we do like to "Keep it Weird"
Russell, who'da thunk it. Austin huh.
Jane,
Russell is right. Your craziness looks similar to ours
Scott, I thought you Austinites were more sedate.
West Hollywood at its finest. There really is no other place like it in the world. BTW...this ain't your kids Halloween party!
Simon, most definitely.
So, I'm thinking grab a front row seat at a great restaurant, order a bottle of wine and people watch!!!
Juli, definitely a place to people watch.
I went to LA a few years ago for the parade. It was an awesome experience, I saw costumes and behavior that I'll never forget.
Jane....and all we have are kids in ours....no one does it like the rich and famous!!! OMG....hope you post photos...
Jane, as I saw you photos and the nature of the revelers, I made the jump to the official website to see the history, and sure enough just as expected. Hopefully with the 35th edition, there will be something for everyone, and maybe at least a PG-13 rating It should still be fun.
Jane - I have to say that some of the wildest and craziest events I have ever been to in my life were WeHo events. In another life (before marrying hubby #2), I lived in Hollywood and every year my friends and I would always try and go to all the WeHo celebrations because those were parties you never wanted to miss.
Interesting. I'm not sure I could keep up with the West Hollywood crowd. g
This definitely sounds like something that you should put on the bucket list if you live in the area!
Leolinda, pretty amazing isn't it.
Barb, if I go I will.
Ed, it is a spectacle to besure.
Donne, coming down for this one?
Gordon, I am sure you could.
Renee, those guys would fit right in.
Hi Jane, Years ago when I lived in Burbank, never missed the parade. But, I have to differ with you on one point... not so sure it's the largest parade in the world. NYC's West Village Halloween parade competes very well with WeHo... and well over a million revelers attend ;o)
Jane, LOVE IT!
Peggy, you may be right. WeHo advertises itself as the largest.
Charles, I am glad.
Such fun! This looks so much like the Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village in NYC...and that one is off the charts crazy!
Craig, that I can believe.
Too rich to miss. Wish I could be there!
Cece, it is worth seeing at least once.
Looks like a lot of fun!
